Fantastic First Graders!

It was wonderful to see so many of you at Open House and to watch the kids proudly show off their hard work.  The ACT Group put on such a spectacular Welcome Back BBQ! It certainly seemed like a good time was had by all and a big thank you goes out to all of the families who brought a yummy dish to share!

I enjoyed seeing all of you again and I appreciate you all taking the time to listen to me explain more about First Grade and the expectations that I have for your child this year. I am so impressed with how well everyone is doing with reading at home and returning their book bags and homework folders to school every day.  The students have also done a great job completing their homework packets.  Keep up the fantastic work!

We All Fit Together!

We have been working hard on our Classroom Community Puzzle!  The students and teachers all did a fantastic job creating and decorating their puzzle pieces!  When we put it together we learned that each one of us plays an important role in our classroom and that we wouldn't be complete if one of us wasn't here!  We also learned that we all fit together, even though we are all different!

Our Classroom Community Puzzle came out wonderful and we had so much fun making it!

Creating Our Classroom Rules

We brainstormed a list of all the rules that we thought would make our classroom a safe and fun environment to learn in.  We then analysed our list, discussed, and eliminated some of the things to make our class rules feel more manageable.

 We voted on the rules that we thought would be best for all of us.  These are the rules that we agreed upon:

* Be respectful to other people and their belongings.

* Keep your body in control and be safe.

* Be honest and responsible.

* Don't shout out, raise your hand.

* Take care of school property.

* Speak in a nice tone of voice.

* Ask a teacher for help.

* Listen and follow directions.

* "You Can't Say, You Can't Play!"

* Everyone will learn and have fun in our classroom.

Below is a picture of our Classroom Rules Poster with all of our hand prints and signatures!

So Proud of Our First Graders!

We have had an exciting few weeks in First Grade!

This week we were pleasantly surprised at All School Sing.  We found out that our class was the big winner for bringing in the most Box Tops!  I’m so proud of all of our First Graders and their amazing families for helping to support our school in such an important way!  The students were thrilled to win the Recess Fun Pack and have already put it to great use out on the playground!  Ask your child to tell you all about it.  This week, the students also earned special Freeze Pops for excellent recess behavior!
